HOH RAIN FOREST ROAD REOPENSThe Hoh Road is open today, after a two-month storm-damage closure. We are pleased to once again welcome visitors and park neighbors to the magnificent Hoh Rain Forest, said Sue McGill, acting Park Superintendent. We are proud of the hard work done by Jefferson County and park crews to reopen this area. The road has been closed since the record-breaking storm of December 3, when heavy rain and floodwaters severely damaged the road. The most significant damage occurred outside the park boundary at mile seven where the road was reduced to one lane. Minor damage also occurred at Snyder Creek in Olympic National Park. Visitors are asked to use caution when traveling the road as a portion of the roadway has a gravel surface. Caution is also advised at West Twin Creek where contractors continue to repair damage from the 2006 storms. The Hoh Campground is closed due to storm debris and two feet of snow still on the ground. With the road now open, park crews will begin working in the campground, removing the storm debris and plowing the snow. This Friday, February 15, the Hoh Visitor Center is scheduled to resume its winter hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday through Sunday. For current road information, people should call the Olympic National Park recorded road and weather information line at 360-565-3131. |
