Navy preparing Supplement to the Northwest Training and Testing Draft EIS

SILVERDALE, Wash. - The U.S. Navy is preparing a Supplement to the Northwest Training and Testing (NWTT) Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Overseas Environmental Impact Statement (EIS/OEIS). Following publication of the Draft EIS/OEIS on January 24, 2014, the U.S. Navy determined that updated training requirements would result in changes to the Proposed Action. The purpose of this Supplement to the Draft EIS/OEIS is to present these changes and significant new information relevant to environmental concerns.

Lucky for us, hope floats

I took our Jack Russells for a run by the river on a warm day late this summer and as we came around a bend, there was a gray tent, neither big nor expensive – no camping equipment outside, no sense of comfort, no chairs – just a walker, sitting lopsided in the sand outside the zippered door. I called the dogs. We turned around and went back the other way.

History Tales to feature McClinton Brothers – Amateur Photographers

"McClinton Brothers — Amateur Photographers" is the subject to be presented by Larry Lang at the Clallam County Historical Society’s History Tales lecture series on Sunday, Nov.2. The presentation begins at 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 110 E. Seventh St., Port Angeles. Parking and entry to the church’s social hall are on Laurel Street.

Clallam Bay Sekiu Lion recognized

On Wednesday, Oct. 15, Lions Club District 19-I District Governor Georgia Medwedrich visited the Clallam Bay Sekiu Lions Club, giving information about Lions' projects around the globe and recognizing the contributions the local club makes to the community.

Applications are now available for the Diane Demorest Nursing Scholarship being offered by SIORF. They can be picked up at Forks City Hall from Audrey Grafstrom or Peninsula College at 481 S. Forks Ave. Demorest was only 45 when she died of cancer but her love of nursing and caring for people lives on through this scholarship named in her honor. Anyone with ties to the West End of Clallam County who has been accepted into a nursing program is eligible to apply.
