Forks Relay For Life

Forks' 12th annual Relay For Life is Friday and Saturday at the FHS track. The walking begins at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, and continues nonstop until noon, Saturday, Aug. 2. This year’s theme “A Knight for a FIGHT for a Cure! will be played out with knight games, catapults, castles and CUREalot passports to guide participants around the track. Passports will be stamped at the 10 team sites and a completed passport can be traded in for drawing prizes.

Interfor closing Beaver-Forks Operation

Interfor announced the permanent closure of its Beaver-Forks operation today, July 31, 2014. The Beaver facility employs 52 people and the Forks mill has 35 employees that will soon be out of work. On June 27, 2014, Interfor announced a curtailment of its Beaver-Forks operation on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.

Attorney General sues owner of Olympic Animal Sanctuary

OLYMPIA — A Forks resident who raised $300,000 for a non-profit dog rescue organization, but failed to register with the Secretary of State or produce required records of how the donations were spent, has been sued by the Attorney General’s Office for violating Washington’s Charitable Solicitations Act and Consumer Protection Act.

Peninsula College in Forks to Show The Whale, Host Discussion on August 8

Peninsula College in Forks will bring the true story of Luna, a young wild killer whale, to the silver screen on Friday, August 8. The documentary, The Whale, will begin at 7:00 pm at the Forks Extension Site at 481 S. Forks Avenue and is free to the public. The film's screening will be followed by a discussion led by Dr. Richard Osborne, who spent three decades as an orca researcher affiliated with The Whale Museum on San Juan Island and the University of Washington Friday Harbor Labs prior to moving to the Olympic Peninsula. He is now a marine biologist and research consultant with The Olympic Natural Resources Center in Forks and works on salmon habitat restoration.
