Former Forks residents Jeremy and Cameron Botkin, and their four young children, have made it through the devastating winds of Cyclone Yasi.
A report arrived in Forks on Wednesday, Feb. 2 reporting they may have no power for up to a week due to power lines knocked down by trees. The couple and children stayed in their home through two tornadoes. They reported no deaths in Townsville, but a water shortage. Overall, reported Yasi was a terrible disaster and that there will be a massive clean up, but they are all okay.The storm is being was called a “monster” force-five cyclone, the Southern Hemisphere-Western Pacific term for a hurricane-force storm.
At press time Cyclone Yasi was expected to cross the north Queensland coast at about dawn Forks time on Wednesday, Feb. 2, with a high tide hitting at the same time.
