Volunteer surfing instructions line up, ready to work with young novice surfers during the annual Surfing & Tradition kids surfing school. This year the surf school is scheduled for Saturday morning, July 14 at First Beach in LaPush.

A pro-am shortboard surfing competition has been announced for Saturday, July 14 at First Beach at LaPush. North By Northwest Surf Company in Port Angeles is organizing the event. The surf contest usually takes place on the south end of First Beach, out of the Lonesome Creek parking and camping area. A sizable cash prize along with a new surfboard will go to the winner of the contest. Snowboard and skateboard maker Lib Tech, which manufactures its boards at a factory near Sequim, is one of the sponsors. The company whose parent company is Quiksilver, has just released its first surfboard, a composite materials product they call the Waterboard. Go to www.libtechwaterboarding.com  for more information. The surfing contest is being held concurrently with the annual Surfing & Traditions kids surfing camp, which is held out of the parking lot located near the Quileute Tribal School.
