Cross country: Forks girls advance to state meet; Spartans’ Lucas and Gomez will represent boys

The Forks girls finished third at the District 4 1A Cross Country Championship and will compete as a team at the Class 1A State Cross Country Championship at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco on Saturday.

The Forks girls placed four runners in the top 13. Enid Ensastegui finished eighth with a time of 21:19, Madison Carlson 11th with a time of 21:58 and Madelyn Archibald 13th with a time of 22:32.

The Spartans’ boys team just missed out on advancing to state, finishing fourth out of 11 teams.

Josue Lucas finished second with a time of 17:21, nine seconds behind district champion Nate Bead of La Center.

Samuel Gomez finished 14th in 18:09 to advance to the state meet for Forks. The top three teams and top 21 individuals on each side advanced to state.
