Spartans crush Rainier, Devils blank Tulalip

Riding behind the two first-half scoring plays by quarterback Javier Contreras, the Forks 11 staked a big early lead and never looked back as they downed SWL-Evergreen Division foe Rainier 41-6 on the road Friday night.

Contreras hit Reece Moody on a 34-yard touchdown toss and added a 39-yard run as part of a 28-0 Spartan first half.

He came back with a school-record 97-yard touchdown run in the third quarter after Miguel Morales hit pay dirt from 17 yards out as the Forks lead grew to 41-0 to enter the final quarter.

Now 2-1 in league, 3-3 overall, Forks squares off against Rochester (3-1, 4-2) Friday.

In another perfect outing, top-ranked Neah Bay cruised to 52-0 win over Tulalip Heritage on Saturday afternoon at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Red Devil quarterback Josiah Greene cracked the scoring with a 77-yard scamper in the opening quarter on his way to 104 yards running and 69 passing.

Cody Cummins led the Neah Bay ground charge with 164 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Martinez rolled up 87 yards rushing for the dominant Devils, and Collin Haupt added 81.

At 5-0 on the season, the Red Devils now travel to Whidbey Island on Saturday, where they will take on fellow 5-0 Lopez at Oak Harbor High School. Lopez enters the game off a win over Clallam Bay this weekend.

Clallam Bay was thumped by visiting Lopes 16-48 Friday night to drop a league game.

The two Bruin scores were punched in by halfback Matt Mohr, who finished the game with 206 yards on eight carries. Casey Randall had another 105 yards in the loss.

Clallam Bay, now 1-1, 2-4, now face fifth-ranked Lummi (1-1, 4-2) whose only league loss came to Neah Bay two weeks ago.
