Forks Spartans 10U fast pitch team wins May Celebration Tournament

On May 6-7 the Forks Spartans 10 and Under Fast pitch team participated in the May Celebration Fastpitch tournament in Olympia at Yeager Park. During the tournament, the Spartans went undefeated 5-0.

On Saturday, the action started with pool play. The Spartans’ first game was against the Monte Dogs from Montesano, which they pulled off a 6-3 victory. Next up for the girls was the JR Cardinals from Orting. Forks dominated the game 10-1. The third and final game of the day was against the Eagles from Bothell. The Spartans won 7-2 to finish the day.

Entering Sunday morning’s single elimination tournament play the girls received a bye to the Semifinals because they won the three games the previous day. Their semifinal game was against the Pioneer Pirates from Grays Harbor.

The Spartans held them scoreless and won 5-0 to put them in the championship game. Their matchup in the finals was a familiar foe who they faced the previous day — the Monte Dogs. This time it was a back and forth game in which the Spartan girls pulled ahead for good and took the 9-6 victory to win the tournament.

The team is a young inexperienced team with most of the girls playing in their very first travel team tournament. They all played well and had a great time. Big thanks to sponsors: Soroptimist Club, The Elks Club, The Lions Club, Forks Outfitters and Lake Pleasant Grocery for their generous donations, helping to make this travel team possible.
