City asking residents for voluntary water conservation measures

The City is requesting Forks residents undertake voluntary efforts to reduce water usage in light of drier than normal weather conditions. The City of Forks utilizes deep underground wells to supply the community with water. However, with the month of May being one of the driest on record, the well levels have reached levels similar to the summers of 2015 and 2016. While there have been brief showers, those have only provided additional watering of plants and yards with no real change in well levels. As a result, the City is asking residents to implement the following voluntary water conservation measures immediately:

• Limit watering of outdoor plants, gardens and yards to less than thirty minutes every other day with such watering occurring in the early morning or late evening.

• Limit washing of vehicles, unless required as in the case of commercial trucks and equipment, to once every five to seven days.

Water customers can also help to conserve water by ensuring that their dishwashers and clothes washers are used to wash full loads. Even small efforts, such as turning off the water while brushing your teeth can be of help.

The City appreciates the help in ensuring that our water resources are there for all of us during the entire summer. With your help, it’s hoped that there will only be voluntary water restrictions in place this summer.
