Forks Junior High School May Students of the Month

Emily Cortez-Vazquez is a seventh-grader whose proud parents are Griselda and Elvis Vazquez.

Her favorite subjects in school are History and ELA, and her favorite food is hot wings.

Her dream job is to become a teacher, and her teachers report that she has the perseverance to do it!

One teacher said, “I really admire Emily’s quiet strength; she is kind and helpful, always hanging back to help someone and partnering up with someone who might need a partner.

“Plus, she is fully dedicated to going above and beyond expectations to improve herself and be a successful Spartan.

“Her work quality is amazing, and she always strives for the highest grade possible.”

Another teacher said, “Emily is one smart cookie with a real gift for writing.

“She has brilliant thoughts that show an in-depth understanding beyond the seventh grade.

“I really admire her intelligence, and her work ethic is something that absolutely blows me away!

“She is so willing to participate in class politely, she always tries her hardest, and she redoes any assignment when she hasn’t performed at a level at which she is most proud.

“I find class really benefits from her kind, gentle, hardworking example.”

Hailey Garcia-Moog is a seventh-grader whose proud parents are Jeff Moog and Maria Elaina Garcia-Moog.

Her favorite subjects in school are Social Studies and Science, her favorite food is enchiladas, her dream job is to become an educational counselor, and her plans this summer are to go to California to visit family.

Teachers report that Hailey is a respectful, motivated, focused, responsible, attentive and polite student.

One teacher said, “Hailey is such an upbeat student who brings exciting ideas to classroom conversations.

“I love how much she cares about work completion and deadlines; she’s a student-athlete who is incredibly proactive about assignments she might miss for traveling for sports.

“She is a leader in our classroom, and many students look up to her; she has a great attitude and wonderful sense of humor.”

Another teacher said, “Hailey is such a great model for the class in both behavior and academics. She pays attention, stays on task, stays focused, and puts in extreme effort.

“I really appreciate her level of accountability and sense of responsibility for herself.

“She is a critical thinker with a positive disposition and quiet strength that helps every class be better.”

Brandon Galeana is an eighth-grader whose proud parents are Tanya and Nick Dias.

His favorite subjects in school are Math, Scimatec, and Social Studies, his favorite food is hamburgers, and his favorite hobbies are fishing and playing basketball.

His dream job is to become a police officer or NBA player, and his plans for the summer are to work, fish, camp and play basketball with friends.

Brandon is a friendly, enthusiastic, positive, proactive, exceptional student who comes to class with a serious work ethic and quick wit.

One teacher said, “Brandon is funny and witty; he is so fun to be around.

“Students and teachers like him, and he always makes people feel more comfortable and happy.

“He takes charge in a helpful way and is a great task-master for his team.

“He’s an excellent communicator, able to thoroughly explain his ideas and often sees connections where his classmates have missed them.

“Academically, he has really stepped up his game this last quarter, and I hope that he continues this into high school and beyond.”

His Band teacher said, “Brandon is a great help to me in class.

“He really helps Band stay focused. I have really enjoyed working with him this year!”

Hannah Gates is an eighth-grader whose proud parents are Jared and Amy Gates.

Her favorite subjects in school are Math and Science, and her favorite food is steak

Her favorite hobbies are hunting, fishing, camping, clam-digging, catching crawdads, riding quads and playing basketball.

Her dream job is to become an ultrasound technician, and her plans for the summer are to play basketball, go camping, and hang out with her family.

One teacher said, “Hannah is a quiet observer, and a kind and helpful, highly regimented student who I can always count on to do the right thing.

“Her extreme sense of responsibility to her academics makes her a great role model for her classmates, and her sense of humor makes every class a more fun and enjoyable one.”

Another teacher said, “Hannah is a super classy and stoic young lady.

She perseveres through thick and thin and some broken things (like legs), and she does it with graciousness and beautiful smile. I admire her daily efforts, success in staying on top of any missing work, and academic commitment; I heard she was so motivated to do well on state tests that she studied math textbooks before the tests.

“The world needs more Hannah Gates.”
