A Look Back …This week in the Forks forum

In 1999 it was reported that the following Forks students were on the Peninsula College Honor Roll; Nerissa Hirsch, John Leavitt, Kelly Parker, and Darlene Rondeau. Christy Rasmussen and Billy Lewis had earned Gold at the FHA regionals (photo). Ground was broken for the new FHS addition …Spartan Lake could be seen in the background and several students watched the activity from a boat! (photo).

In 1974 it was reported that the Forks Chamber of Commerce was creating a tourism brochure/map. Advertising spaces were limited and $25 each. Fifty thousand brochures were to be distributed. Twenty-year-old Herbert Fisher Jr. had been installed as the new Hoh Chief. Almost 300 people had attended the 13-hour celebration. Hal George had presented the new chief to the crowd (photo).

In 1952 there had been a three-way log truck wreck on the Elwha Bridge. All three drivers received only minor injuries. A follow-up from last week’s Look Back regarding the theft of Henry Bechtold’s car …The car had been located on Hoquiam as it was left there as the thief had stolen another car. Bechtold’s car was not damaged.
