A Look Back … This week in the Forks Forum

This week in 1999 it was reported that the annual clean-up day was being planned. Members of the West End Sportsman’s Club were planning to take on all the garbage on the “A” Road. For Rainfest activities, local artist Missy Barlow had demonstrated her “lint” painting at Seafirst Bank (photo). Heidi’s School of Dance had also performed for Rainfest …Jillian Raben was one of the performers (photo).

Fifty years ago this week little Allison Lagambina had cut the ribbon on her mom’s new apparel shop …Allison’s Closet, located next to the Post Office. Little sister Sabrina had helped (photo). The local Peninsula Telephone Company had announced that Port Angeles operators would no longer assist West End customers. Seattle operators would now serve phone customers with their needs.

In 1952 it was reported that former FHS graduate and football player Glen Christian had signed a professional contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Christian had played college ball at Idaho University; also a track standout, he, at that time, held the 100-yard dash record for Idaho. In city council news a new ordinance regarding the installation of septic tanks, that went into effect in September, had not had one person apply …the permit cost was $1. Janice James had celebrated her birthday with a “slumber” party.
