No 1975 edition
This week in 1968, it was announced that a Seattle band, Buddy Howard and the Swingsters, would be playing at the American Legion Hall dance on the 4th of July (photo). In a front-page article, it was news that the “hippy movement” was becoming more prominent in the area, with a few of them living on the beach at La Push. A new DNR campground had been named after Minnie Peterson (photo). It was sad news for the community that former Town Marshal Ellwood Leppell had died. The 4th of July schedule, on the front page, proclaimed to be “The biggest 4th of July ever.”
This week in 1953, 4th of July hats were on sale (red felt). The wooden barrel, in the barrel derby, was to be released at the mouth of Hyas Creek at 6 a.m. on the morning of the 4th. Queen candidates for the 4th celebration were – Sharon Huling, Donna Woodruff, Mary Ann Hagin, June Pedersen, Jackie Whitehead, and Viola Holeman.
