A Look Back …This week in the Forks Forum

This week in 2000 it was reported that Lloyd and Dar George had been the Grand Marshals of the 4th of July Grand Parade. Ramona Oakes was the new Soroptimist president. Rayonier had donated $5,000 towards the refurbishing of the Shay locomotive in Tillicum Park. The Forks Lions had served 250 meals at the 4th of July salmon bake. Beaver Jack’s “Sol Duc Tours” entry had won the Best Comedy award in the 4th parade (photo).

This week in 1975 Linda Peterson had been crowned Forks 4th of July Queen. Jim Grush had been named the “All Around Logger” at the 4th of July Logging Show. The Soloman-Burrill car had won the 4th Demo-derby. In the Demo-derby Mary Eastman had won the “powder puff” round driving the Chinook Resort car.

In 1953 it was reported that June Pedersen had been crowned 4th of July Queen. The coronation ceremony took place at the city Triangle lot. She was sponsored by the Forks Lions Club and had been invited to attend SeaFair at the end of August. It was reported several thousand people had watched the 4th parade. The Fuller family had built a 40 foot fishing boat. The boat named Cheryl, had been launched at La Push.
