An antiqued piece of West End logging history has found its new home at the Forks Timber Museum, 1421 S. Forks Ave.

Dahlgren Logging of Forks unearthed the heel boom from the Royal School area up the Hoko Road by Lake Ozette.

John Dahlgren said it had been lying in brush off the side of the road for years and his firm was asked by the Forks Lions Club to retrieve it for the museum.

The Dahlgren firm was logging the area.

Crews picked it up with a loader and put the boom on a logging truck driven by Guy Ruble of Dahlgren Logging.

Ken Bechtold of Bechtold Logging unloaded the boom at the timber museum.

John Dahlgren said it was likely a piece of Crown Zellerbach equipment from the 1940s or 1950s. Based on the logs around it, Dahlgren figured it had not been used since the 1960s at earliest.

The boom was primarily used to load logs onto rail cars and trucks.
