On Oct. 1, at about 9 a.m. Deputy Sean Hoban, Clallam County, responded to 241 S. Forks Ave in the city of Forks in an attempt to apprehend escaped Alabama fugitive Dylan Carroll. Carroll escaped from a minimum security prison in Alabama on Sept. 23, 2016, and stole a pickup hours after escaping.

Carroll was reported by his grandmother to have been driving the stolen 2016 Chevy Pickup out of Alabama and had possession of a stolen firearm. The pickup had stolen Texas plates on it.

Carroll left the scene before Deputy Hoban and assisting Forks/La Push Officers arrived. Before leaving Carroll gave his grandmother the stolen firearm. Carroll was suspected to be travelling toward Port Angeles in the stolen pickup. Deputy Hoban took custody of the stolen firearm and advised PENCOM of Carroll’s direction of travel. PENCOM put out the vehicle information to units in the area to include State Patrol, National Parks, Port Angeles Police, Sequim Police, and Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

At about noon a National Park Ranger’s wife called 911 to report seeing the stolen Chevy Pickup travelling east on Highway 101 near S. Brooke Ave. The caller reported she was advised of the pickup by her husband and last witnessed the pickup continue east on Highway 101 towards Sequim.

Deputies arrived in the area and located the stolen pickup in the Port Angeles Walmart parking lot. Carroll had backed the pickup into an embankment to conceal the stolen Texas license plate. Carroll was seated in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition and was also the only person in the pickup. Carroll was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Clallam County Jail for his Escape Warrant out of Alabama, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.

The pickup was impounded for safekeeping and the owner notified that his pickup and firearm had been recovered.
