Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a 28 year old Kingston, WA resident Alexander Greene following his attempt to shoplift a six pack of beer and three bottles of malt liquor from the Weel Road Deli and convenience store, 17203 Highway 112, Clallam Bay.

On Feb. 19 at 1:57 p.m. Deputies were dispatched to the Weel Road Deli, after receiving a 911 call from the business that store clerk Cipriano Ojeda had been assaulted while attempting to apprehend a shoplifter. Upon arrival Deputies found Greene bound with duct tape around his ankles and wrists on the sidewalk in front of the business.

Deputies interviewed witnesses at the scene and learned Ojeda had confronted Greene as he exited the store without paying for beer Greene had concealed in his backpack. As Ojeda attempted to stop and detain Greene, a struggle ensued and both subjects fell to the ground. During the struggle, Greene brandished a knife and swung the knife at Ojeda’s head, cutting Ojeda’s forehead.

Ojeda took hold of the knife and the suspect’s hand, successfully maneuvering the knife from his grip. Ojeda was able to overtake and restrain Greene facedown on sidewalk with his hands pinned behind his back. Once subdued, Ojeda and other neighboring business employees wrapped Greene’s ankles and wrists in duct tape.

Ojeda, Clallam Bay Corrections Center Officer Jeffery Shefelin, business employees, and responding Clallam County Fire District 5 personnel detained Greene at the scene until the arrival of Deputies.

Ojeda was subsequently transported by ambulance to the Forks Community Hospital where he received treated for a small laceration, approximately one-half inch in length, on the forehead and cuts to his left hand sustained during the altercation.

Greene was arrested by Deputies at the scene and transported to the Clallam County Jail where he was booked for Robbery in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and Theft in the Third Degree. The case is being forwarded to the Clallam County Prosecutor’s Office for a formal charging decision.
