Free Senor Legal Advice Clinic

Free legal advice is available to seniors 60 years and older on civil issues such as Wills & Durable Powers of Attorney, Transfer of Assets/Estate Planning, Social Security & Medicaid, Property Issues, and more. Appointments are conducted by phone or Zoom/Skype. The next Senior Legal Advice Clinic is Monday, Jan. 31. Call Susie at 360-374-9496 ext.2 to make an appointment.

The Genealogy Society of Clallam County (CCGS) will host a presentation by Richard Hill Saturday, Feb. 12, at 10 a.m.

Richard Hill was the first adoptee to find his birth family using DNA technology. He will present his story of how he used DNA to discover his biological parents, and introduce recent methods of finding unknown relatives.

He is a nationally known speaker, genealogist and author. His book, Finding Family: My Search for Roots and the Secrets in My DNA, has been well received by the literary and genealogic communities. His story is fascinating as well as educational.

This will be a Zoom presentation. All are invited to hear his story at your home, or come to CCGS Research Center located at 403 E. 8th Street in Port Angeles. To watch at home, call the Society to obtain the Zoom meeting number and passcode at 360-417-5000.

Poets Carolyne Wright and Gary Copeland Lilley to Share Readings at Jan. 27 Studium

Join poets Carolyne Wright and Gary Copeland Lilley for a reading at Peninsula College’s January 27 Studium Generale, beginning at 12:30 pm.

Wright’s new book is “Masquerade, a memoir in poetry” (Lost Horse Press, 2021). The title poem in her previous book, “This Dream the World: New & Selected Poems” (Lost Horse, 2017), won a Pushcart Prize, and also appeared in The Best American Poetry 2009. Her ground-breaking anthology, “Raising Lilly Ledbetter: Women Poets Occupy the Workspace” (Lost Horse, 2015), received 10 Pushcart Prize nominations. In addition, Wright has five earlier books of poetry, a volume of essays, and five award-winning volumes in translation from Spanish and Bengali.

A contributing editor for the Pushcart Prizes, Wright teaches for Seattle’s Richard Hugo House and for literary conferences and festivals nationwide. She has lived in Chile and traveled in Brazil on a Fulbright Grant. She returned to Brazil in 2018 on an Instituto Sacatar artist’s residency in Bahia. She has also received NEA and 4Culture grants, as well as a Fulbright Scholar Award.

Gary Copeland Lilley was recently named Artistic Curator for The Centrum Writers Conference. He is the author of eight books of poetry, the most recent being The Bushman’s Medicine Show (Lost Horse Press, 2017), and a chapbook, The Hog Killing (Blue Horse Press, 2018). He has received the DC Commission on the Arts Fellowship for Poetry and is published in numerous anthologies and journals, including The Best American Poetry 2014, Willow Springs, The Swamp, Waxwing, Taos Journal of Poetry and Art, and African American Review. He is a Cave Canem Fellow. Originally from North Carolina, Lilley now calls the Pacific Northwest home.

Federal Taxes: DIY and Tips

Join the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) and the AARP Foundation Tax Aide for a presentation about filing 2021 tax returns. This Zoom meeting will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m. Registration is not required.

This 45-minute session will cover basic tips, common errors, necessary forms and documents, and IRS online tools, plus local Tax Aide program plans for helping file 2021 tax returns. Questions can be submitted in advance by emailing PATaxAide@gmail.com by 4 p.m. on Jan. 28; real-time audience questions may be taken if time permits.

2022 Masonic Fund Raiser Car & Bike Show Cruz-In

A Car & Bike Show Cruz-In will be held Aug. 13, 2022, from 3-7 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 622 S. Lincoln St. in Port Angeles.

The Registration fee is by donation. There will be Awards, a Snack Bar, Beer Garden (open to 21 and older), 50/50 Raffle (open to 21& older), and Door Prizes for participants.
