For the first time in about 20 years all of Forks High School’s students are attending class under one roof. After years of planning and bond fund raising, followed by months of construction, the new Forks High School Addition opened to students and staff as scheduled on Tuesday morning, Jan. 3. Students mixed in the hall with construction workers from Primo Construction who are putting the finishing touches on the project. The entrance to the new Forks High School Addition recalls the brick and terra cotta entrance to the now-demolished circa 1925 brick Forks High School building. A Spartan logo can be seen embossed into the top of the front pillar.

Looking very relieved following the opening of the new Forks High School addition on Tuesday morning, Jan. 3 are Quillayute Valley School District Maintenance Administrator Bill Henderson and Quillayute Valley School District Superintendent Diana Reaume. Both played key roles in the project, and stand where the 2000 school addition was joined to the new addition.

The cornerstone of the original brick Forks High School building was removed from the building prior to demolition, restored and placed in the new building.

Terra cotta and brick elements from the entrance to the the original brick Forks High School building are now part of the interior wall entrance to Forks High School. In coming months a display of memorabilia from each decade of the high school’s history dating back to the 1920s will go on display in the hall leading into the entrance, an area to be called Heritage Hall.

Forks High School Librarian Tammy Klebe sits at the check-out desk of the new school library. Klebe said cases of library books stored at the Bank of  America building will soon fill the shelves of the spacious, well-lit library.

Forks High School Counselor Steve Erickson and Registrar Nora Lawson begin to move into the spacious counseling office in the new high school addition. The former counseling office was crammed into a closet-size office formerly used by the school nurse in years past.
