It was a hot time at the ol’ Elk’s Lodge corral on Saturday as the annual Kid’s Hoedown event was back after being missing for the last two years. Snake wranglin’, pig feedin’, chicken pettin’, and many other activities were offered up under sunny skies.
Kids could also learn about water safety, what law enforcement officers and EMS do, and get a close-up look at the Forks ambulance. Thanks to the Forks Ambulance crew, Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Coast Guard Station Quillayute River, and others for participating in the Hoedown for our local youth.

The clowns were back …a signpost directed ‘Hoedowners’ to the various activities.
Sean Hoban with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office offered a vest demonstration to those that wanted to try it on. Hoban was also strategically placed next to the Bank and the Jail. USCG Station Quillayute River members, seen in the background, also participated, with a lifevest demonstration.
The coolest spot …well at least with some cool water, was the mining activity.
Barbara Graham and Carol O’Brien welcomed Hoedowners on Saturday, everyone also got a western hat!
‘Farmer’ Moe offered up hay rides with his tractor.
Petrie the Turkey was not ‘baking’ in the sun as he also found a bit of shade along with his girlfriend Butterball. Petrie and Butterball were also available for petting. Butterball is not pictured.
