Darby Maguire

DOC news release – Sunday,  Aug. 7 2011

The Department of Corrections and local law enforcement are searching for an offender who escaped from Olympic Corrections Center, a minimum-security work camp located near Forks.

At about 8:20 p.m. Saturday the staff conducted a check-in after a recreation period. They put the prison on lockdown and initiated a response team once they realized that Darby R. Maguire, 27, was not accounted for.

The search team includes staff members from Olympic Corrections Center, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington State Patrol and Stafford Creek Corrections Center, a medium-security prison located near Aberdeen. The prison staff is also investigating to determine how Maguire escaped.

Maguire began his prison sentence in January 2010 after he was convicted of three counts of third-degree assault and one count of second-degree robbery in Whatcom County. He was scheduled to complete his prison sentence in July 2014.

Olympic Corrections Center, located near the Hoh Rain Forest, houses about 375 offenders.
