Road work happening now to remove fish barriers under US 101

Major road work is underway around the Olympic Peninsula. The work is part of the Washington State Department of Transportation’s ongoing efforts to remove barriers to fish under state highways.

Crews working for WSDOT will dig up the roadway to remove outdated culverts at six work zones. The work zones are located on US 101 between Ruby Beach and Lake Crescent. New bridges or fish-passable culverts will replace the outdated culverts.

What to Expect

Spring to fall 2024:

• Daytime one-way alternating traffic with flaggers or temporary signals as crews set up work zones.

• Around-the-clock alternating traffic on a single temporary lane.

• Temporary traffic signals at each work zone.

• A reduced speed limit of 25 mph at all six locations.

• During this time, travelers may encounter minor slowdowns or extended wait times.
