On Tuesday, May 17, at 6 p.m., the Quillayute Valley School District’s Board of Directors, Forks City Council members and other community members officially broke ground for the replacement of Spartan Field and Track.

 

 

The project is a joint effort between the school district and city. Prior to the event, a pre-construction meeting was held with the district’s contractor to establish the timeline for the Spartan Track and Field replacement project.

The official work of Spartan Field began on Monday, May 23. Due to the construction of the field, the stadium and track area inside of the fencing will no longer be available for school and community usage. However, the usage area will be modified during the first weekend of August to accommodate the Forks Annual Relay for Life event.

During the removal of the dirt and field materials, the route for dump truck and heavy equipment will go between the south end of Spartan Field through the soccer practice field area and then over to the West End Youth League area. The district donated the dirt to the nonprofit organization, West End Youth League.

 

 

Safety fences will clearly mark the areas where construction is occurring to ensure safety for all students, staff and community members. The following schedule of activities is projected as follows:

 

 

Monday, May 23 Demolition will begin.

Monday, May 30 Field cut to sub-grade

Monday, June 13-28 Cement installed, collector, curb and jump pits installed.

Thursday, July 7 Goal posts installed.

July 11-22 Base installed.

Monday, July 25 Tile and turf installed (approximately 20 days).

Monday, Aug. 8 Track surface installed.

Monday, July 25-Aug. 12 Infiltration excavated and installed.
