Flag Retirement Ceremony
The Forks Elk Lodge, 941 Merchant Rd., will host an official Flag Retirement Ceremony on Tuesday, June 29 at 6:30 p.m., at the fire pit at the Lodge RV Park.
Community members are invited to bring their old, worn-out flags for proper retirement preparation and disposal.
Forks Food Bank Vaccine Clinic
The Forks Food Bank, 181 Bogachiel Way, will offer a vaccination clinic on Tuesday, June 29 from 3-5 p.m. The clinic will be using Johnson and Johnson, and Pfizer vaccines. Anyone receiving a vaccine will get a $25 gift card for Outfitters.
Gift cards are being provided by First Step Family Support Center and the Vaccine Equity Initiative.
Community AA Meeting
Community members are invited to attend weekday AA meetings, M-F, at 7 p.m., at the Burke Place Community Room, 287 Founders Way. A hybrid option is also offered on Zoom at meeting ID 75064267302 the password is ForksPMAA.

Young life Rummage Sale
Help local teens get to camp this summer by supporting the Young Life Rummage Sale on Friday and Saturday, June 25 and 26 from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. each day. The sale will take place at The Family First Center across from Forks Outfitters, rain or shine!
WESC 22-shoot
West End Sportsmen’s Club will host a 22 Shoot on Sunday, June 27 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m at the Clubhouse on Sportsmen’s Club Rd. The cost is $1 per set; silhouette, target and poker, (sorry not speed steel).
The winner receives 50 percent of the pot. Come out and have some fun …BYOB …Bring your own bullets.

Upcoming Pop-up Vaccinations Clinics
On June 24 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m., there will be a COVID Vaccination clinic, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, at Alder Grove Mobile Home Park 1886 Calawah Way. On July 1 the Forks Public Health office, 140 C. St., will offer Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, vaccines from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Also on July 1 second dose Pfizer vaccines will be available at Peninsula College-Forks from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.
All Public Health Office events have Moderna, J&J, and Pfizer available and are by appointment only. Call (360) 417-2274 to schedule. All other events are walk-in, no appointment needed. Please wear a short-sleeved shirt.
“All About Galls” by Christine Heycke

How is it that insects and other organisms can control the growth of plants for their own benefit, often creating outlandish and colorful structures called plant galls? Does it hurt the plant? Should galls be controlled? If so, how? These are questions Christine Heycke will address during her Zoom presentation, Thursday, June 24 from noon to 1 p.m. She will explain what plant galls are and provide lots of images of galls that may be seen on walks, hikes, and even in one’s own garden and back yard.
Heycke will discuss life inside the gall, how galls are both beneficial and detrimental to humans, the need for gardeners to be aware of galls’ potential effects on ornamental and edible plants, and if action is needed, which remedial efforts are most likely to be effective.

Christine Heycke became interested in galls after watching a webinar on plant galls some years ago. She began reading books and research articles on galls, joining the British Plant Gall Society to get more information on various types of galls and correspond with people who study them. As a teenager, Heycke had a strong interest in plants and insects and wanted to be an entomologist. Instead, she became an urban planner, which is not as unrelated to entomology and plant galls as it may sound. Both fields of study look at interactions between organisms and the built or natural environments. Those interactions are what fascinates her. Although she has spent most of her life in the Pacific Northwest, Heycke lived in Germany for several years and spent a year in South Africa as an exchange student. She is a master gardener with the Jefferson County Extension who enjoys traveling and learning foreign languages.
The “Green Thumbs Garden Tips” education series is sponsored by WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners. Live streaming presentations are available from noon to 1:00 pm on the second and fourth Thursday each month through October. In November, December, and January, one program is offered. PASTURE MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP
Clallam Conservation District is offering a free workshop on managing and improving pastures for horses and livestock. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, June 23 from 10-11 a.m. at Robin Hill Farm Park in Agnew.
Conservation District planners will tour participants through the rotational grazing system at Robin Hill Farm Park used by Miniature Hereford cattle, and talk about strategies to increase the health and productivity of pastures. Management techniques such as mowing, dragging and rotational grazing will be discussed as tools to boost the production of forage species while helping to control and prevent weed infestations. The workshop will include identification of common forage grasses and legumes to ensure participants are growing the highest producing species for their pastures.

Virtual legal Aid Clinic
On Saturday, June 26, 2021, Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers will present a virtual legal aid clinic, a free program offering legal advice for members of the public.
The purpose of this event is to allow local people to address their civil legal issues in one-on-one consultations with volunteer lawyers. Due to the pandemic, consultations will be offered either by phone or by Zoom conference.
Legal aid clinics are geared to help those who are financially unable to otherwise access a lawyer. Attorney volunteers will be available from 10 a.m. to noon, to answer legal questions, direct people to local services that might be able to assist them and to explain the legal process to them.

Cultural Appropriation Highlighted at PC’s Final Culture Talk in 2021 Series
“A Global Perspective on Cultural Appropriation,” the final presentation in Peninsula College’s Culture Talk series for the 2021-2022 academic year will be held online, June 17, at 12:30 p.m.
The college’s Studium Generale program is partnering with House of Learning, Peninsula College Longhouse for the event which will feature dynamic conversation and discussion with Kyle Pittman and Morgan Lewin.
Morgan Lewin is a student of the History Professorate at the Del Atuel Institute of Higher Education in Argentina.
Pittman comes from the Nez Perce and Yakama peoples of the Plateau Region. He was raised on the Puyallup Indian Reservation in Tacoma, Washington. The event is free and open to the public.
