This week in 2000, Patty Brandt was named coach of the year (photo). Many businesses had dressed up for Halloween (photo). The Chamber’s annual Wine and Cheese was happening at the ONRC.

Fifty years ago this week, construction work near the Coast Guard station in La Push, had unearthed a human skull. Archaeologists estimated the skull to be that of a 15-23-year-old female. Flying instructor Jim Williamson had taken off from the Forks Airport and failed to arrive at his home in Oak Harbor, so a search was on. McCoy cousins, Dean, Wade, Kelsi and Alisa had attended a birthday party (photo). A photo of the Forks High School Drill Team had appeared in the paper (photo). The Smokehouse was advertising that they were serving Chinese food.

This week in 1968, Peninsula Loggers Supply was building a new building (photo). The Forks Motel was adding 12 new units and Olympic Pharmacy had remodeled. It was reported that Carter Warren had harvested a 6-point elk in the Dickey area.

In 1953, it was reported that Alma Lucken had passed. She had come to live in Beaver in 1927. The Town Council had authorized the drilling of a second well. One of the finest films to come out of Hollywood was coming to the Olympic Theater …Shane …was due to run for four days. A Knick-Knack shower had been held for Miss Donna Maxfield. The theme Silver Bells had been chosen for the senior ball.
