Last spring when we saw the pictures of the chalet in Enchanted Valley teetering over the river bank of the Quinault River, we never dreamed we would be involved in saving it. Given the fact that it was predicted several years ago that the chalet would be taken by the river and Olympic National Park had not yet addressed the issue, we expected that it would go the way of many shelters within the park and disappear into the river.
The Forks Police Department is still seeking help from the public in identifying individuals that may have been involved in a theft at the Forks Community Hospital.
There was also a second person of interest with the first person of interest (both males)… they may have been accompanied by a female that waited outside the hospital holding a leashed large dog while these two individuals were inside the hospital.
The VFW #9106 Auxiliary is inviting any wife, widow, mother, foster mother or stepmother; daughter or stepdaughter; sister or stepsister; and grandmother of any and all veterans who have served in action on foreign soil during any conflict or war to join the Auxiliary.

Elks Scholarships available
The 2015 Elks scholarship applications are now available and include the Most Valuable Student Competition which awards up to $50,000, over four years, and is open to any high school senior who is a U.S. citizen as well as Vocational Grants, Legacy Grants & Emergency Education Grants. Moderator Bob Henry invites members and friends of the First Congregational Church/United Church of Christ to the installation and licensing service of the Rev. Warren Johnson as their pastor.
After serving the church for the past six years in the role of lay pastor, in August of this year Johnson received his ministerial license through the United Church of Christ Northwest Conference.
Forks Returning to Normal Self After Devastating Forest Fire
Forks is gradually getting back to normal living as a climax to almost a week of fear and anxiety when it was expected last Thursday afternoon and evening that the devastating forest fire would wipe out the entire town.
The fire did burn the north end of Forks, destroying 23 homes, nine cabins, three barns, four garages and a sawmill. Considerable equipment in and near the large gypo operator’s garages also were lost in the blaze.
The Olympic Natural Resources Center invites the community to an interactive, engaging program on astronomy.
University of Washington graduate students from the Department of Astronomy will lead science-based experiences to discover more about the skies above.
On 09-09-14 at approximately 1819 hours Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2500 block of Calawah Way in reference to the report of a male suspect who had pointed a hand gun at another male and discharged it while the male victim was telling the suspect to just shoot him.
Due to concerns about the status, trends, and escapement of Hoh River Chinook salmon, Olympic National Park is closing the upper Hoh River, South Fork Hoh River, and all tributaries to recreational fishing from September 9 through October 15, 2014. The upper Hoh and South Fork Hoh Rivers are scheduled to reopen on October 16.
Kelly Hall, who had been missing for nearly four days in the northeast section of Olympic National Park, walked out to the Whiskey Bend Trailhead in the Elwha Valley. He is tired and has minor scrapes and bruises but is safe and well.
Last Thursday evening as black and gold balloons floated up in to threatening skies Debbie Scannell, Coordinator at the Forks Extension site, welcomed dignitaries and west end residents to the grand opening of the Peninsula College Forks extension site. The event which was held outdoors drew several hundred people.
In the fall of 1945 the Forks Spartans were perfect. They had won every game that season and on Thanksgiving Day they met North Kitsap in a battle to decide which would be the unofficial Tri-County champs.
Prince of Peace Fellowship Picnic
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 250 N. Blackberry Ave., Forks, is hosting a hamburger and hotdog summer picnic extravaganza. The community is invited to come to the Prince of Peace Barbecue and Fellowship Picnic, from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 30. All food will be provided and donations will be accepted, all funds raised will benefit Prince of Peace.
