Dignitaries, a program and ribbon cutting, tours, music and great food will all be part of the Peninsula College grand opening celebration of its new Forks Extension Site at 481 S. Forks Ave. on Thursday, Aug. 28. The public is invited.
WET drag racers will attempt to get two full days of racing in this weekend as well as run the Arlen Pearsall Memorial Race which has been rained out twice. In addition to racing there will be a Show and Shine car show.
On Aug. 21 Ethan Gossard and Ryan Anderson both of Forks, will be honored as Sheriff and Chief for a Day, respectively, at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission in Burien.
Chief for a Day is about celebrating the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening or chronic illness.
UPDATE 8/15/2014 9:50 a.m. Aaron Richard Brown III escaped from Olympic Corrections Center near Forks, Wash., the evening of Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014.
Aaron Richard Brown III is now in custody. Department of Corrections staff apprehended Brown just prior to 9:30 a.m., approximately 10 miles north of Olympic Corrections Center. Brown will be interviewed by local law enforcement and placed in administrative segregation.
It was about 10 years ago that Mark Klinger started perfecting his barbecue sauce for baby back ribs. As family and friends tried it, they all said “You should market this stuff.”
Klinger, who has lived in Forks for eight years, says he just likes to play around in the kitchen and has created a sauce for pork and one for chicken.

A contract to temporarily relocate the Enchanted Valley Chalet was awarded yesterday to Monroe House Moving, Inc. of Sequim, Washington. The award amount is $124,000. The move is tentatively set to occur during the first two weeks of September, as long as weather, visibility and trail conditions allow. Once all materials and personnel are onsite, moving the building will take about one week to complete.

OLYMPIA – With dangerously hot and dry weather driving fire danger to a new high, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is expanding the current statewide burn ban to cover all outdoor burning on all DNR-protected lands, with no exceptions, the agency announced today.

In June 1956, a contest was held to name Rayonier’s new roadside park situated near Sappho. School children in Forks and Clallam Bay were invited to send in their suggestions. The first cement for FHS Spartan Stadium was poured in January 1964, the first football game played the new stadium was Sept. 25, 1964, against Bainbridge. A lot of games and countless other activities have taken place since that first game in 1964 and the poor old stadium’s days are numbered.
Quileute Tribal School just finished 6 weeks of summer school. It was a wonderful learning experience for the students and staff.
