This week in 2000 Christy Rasmussen and Katie Rogers were set to represent Forks on the float in the Grand Parade. Moss poachers were detained with 41 bags of illegally harvested moss for ONP. It was sad news that longtime Forks resident Sven “Sam” Rasmussen had passed. He had lived in the area since about 1938 working in the timber industry as a Cat skinner. Eighty-something year old Malcom Stark was holding a book signing. His book featured 223 of the almost 800 poems he had written. Beverly Jackson had shared a paddle she made, with the students at the Quileute Tribal School (photo).

In 1968 the city was installing new water line from Campbell Addition to Calawah Way. Sky King had been in town with the circus and had raised a U.S. flag on the KVAC radio station tower. A 131 foot tree had been raised in the arena for the 4th of July Logging Show (photo).

1975 is back …this week 4th of July Queen candidates filled the front page …Louise Lyall, Jessie Jaime, Julie Raben, Marcia Self, Carmen Hoke and Linda Peterson. Peninsula Telephone announced a new employee, Dan Yurisich, had been hired. The Dave Bunker Show was performing at the Vagabond for three nights, cover charge $3 (photo).
