Students in the University of Washington’s Architecture Department have been considering various options for a new Rainforest Arts Center (RAC), one that will replace the venerated old building that burned down in October 2012.

They now have nine concepts they’re ready to share with the Forks community.

They’ll be in town Saturday, June 1, to gather further comments.

Everyone is invited. The sessions include:

9-11 a.m. Olympic Natural Resources Center (ONRC) – Students will give brief presentations covering their concept proposals and answer questions about their proposals in a more formal setting. The public is invited to attend and participate.

Noon-2:30 p.m. Site to be determined – The students will have materials and will be available for those interested to provide input and comment upon their designs and architectural models for their ideas of what a replacement for the RAC could be. People will be able to come and visit with the students in an informal “open house” outdoor venue.

4-6 p.m. ONRC – At a light reception hosted at the school’s ONRC, the students will be available to discuss in an informal “open house” manner their ideas for the replacement of the Rainforest Art Center.

The students were engaged by the city to obtain information and to develop options that can now be evaluated by the community. The responses to the options will be provided to the architectural firm that will eventually design the replacement facility.
