Good food, good music
Calvary Chapel Forks is hosting a barbecue (5:30 p.m.) and a concert (6:30 p.m.) at Tillicum Park on Thursday, June 27. Both are free to the public.
The artists will include Mike Aceves, aka “Ace,” who will be performing some original hip hop. Aceves was a member of E-Tribe, which has performed at Calvary concerts in previous years. He’s currently serving as the leader of Calvary Chapel’s Youth Ministry.
The lineup also includes a poet from Seattle who will be sharing Spoken Word Poetry.
The featured group is Hillary & Kate (in the photo), two young ladies from Southern California who provide a fresh new take on traditional folk, bluegrass and gospel. With their combination of acoustic guitar and violin they produce a sound every age will appreciate. Call 374-3298 for more information.
Elks fork it over
The members of the Forks Elks Lodge again have stepped up to support local youth. On Friday, May 17, Esteemed Loyal Knight Lance Slyter presented a much-needed $400 check to Jananne Meyer, a school volunteer who accepted the donation on behalf of the Forks Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization.

Don’t forget: The 21-hour American Cancer Society Relay for Life begins at 3 p.m. on Aug. 2 at Forks High School. This overnight event, now in its 11th year, is centered around the Forks community coming together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost and to fight back against a disease that already has taken too much. The funds raised truly make a difference in the fight against cancer – just ask one of the nearly 14 million cancer survivors who will celebrate another birthday this year!

Native art focus of exhibit
Peninsula College Multimedia Communications student Jackie Parker of the Makah Nation will display her handcrafted beaded lilies as part of a new exhibition in the Peninsula College Longhouse Art Gallery. The Native Student Art Exhibit, which showcases the works of Native American student artists, is the first student show to be mounted in the gallery; it will be in place through July.
A reception honoring the student artists will be held from 3-4 p.m., Thursday, June 6, in the gallery as part of the college’s Spring Arts Week.
Exhibition viewing hours during May and June are 8-11 a.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 12:30-3:30 p.m. Fridays. Hours during July will vary and are by appointment. To see the exhibition, call 360-452-9277.

Forks Abuse Program invites you to attend the Crime Victim Rights and the Criminal Justice Process Community Meeting, a potluck and get-together from 5:30-9 p.m, Thursday, June 6, at the Forks Elks Lodge.
Forks Abuse Program advocates for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and is now proud also to advocate for all crime victims. That includes robbery, assault, identity theft, homicide, child abuse, elder abuse and other crimes.
Guest speaker Rose Torgerson from the Washington Coalition of Crime Victim Advocates will be presenting.
