Bids for IOOF building site clean-up to be opened

Clean-up is on Forks City Council agenda

Cleaning up the site of the International Order of Odd Fellows side of the downtown Forks fire could begin by early December.

A dozen companies listed on the City of Forks small works roster have been invited to bid on the clean-up. The bids are being opened at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26. Awarding the clean-up contract to the lowest responsible bidder will be on the Forks City Council agenda for that evening. Mayor Bryon Monohon is slated to discuss the bid with the council as an action item at the meeting. If the bid is awarded at the meeting the clean-up of the city-owned International Order of Odd Fellows side of debris-strewn site should be underway by early December.

City of Forks Attorney/Planner Rod Fleck said the city is sharing information on the bidding process with the financial institution in Alaska that holds the title on the former Dazzled by Twilight side of the fire site. No announcement has been made by the bank on their clean-up plans.

The IOOF building, which housed a Latino general store on its first floor and the Rainforest Players theater on the second floor, is insured by the City of Forks for almost $4 million. No rebuilding plans have been yet announced.
