Some Clallam County residents have officially filed to run for local office, with 48 positions across various districts up for election in the upcoming cycle. West End races include city council, mayoral seat, school boards, fire districts, hospital district, and parks and recreation commissions.
In Forks, candidates have stepped forward to shape the city’s future. Incumbent Mayor Tim Fletcher is seeking re-election to another four-year term. On the city council, Position 1 is currently held by Vilkesh Patel, who was appointed in April to fill the seat previously held by Nettie Grant. Patel has now filed to retain the position through election.
Three first-time candidates have entered the race for Forks City Council: Kaylan Kimball (Position 2), Corey Pearson (Position 5), and Armistead Lucas Coleman II (also Position 5). Pearson, a consultant who now offers nutritional guidance, and Coleman, a gunsmith, both expressed interest in the previously vacant Position 1 seat before Patel’s appointment. Coleman noted his desire to “get involved in the community” as his motivation for running. City council member Clint Wood (Position 2) is not running for re-election.
Incumbent Joe Soha is also seeking to retain his seat in Position 3 on the Forks City Council.
In Hospital District 1, Paige Pearson has filed for Commissioner Position No. 1. Meanwhile, in the Cape Flattery School District, Janine Leford (Director No. 1) and LeAnne Fletcher (Director No. 3) have filed to run. The Quillayute Valley School District (QVSD) will see Kevin Hinchen running for Director Position No. 2, and Ron Hurn for Position No. 4.
In fire district races for Fire District 1, William Henderson (Commissioner Position No. 1) and John Buonpane (Position No. 4) have filed, while the Clallam-Jefferson Fire District 1 Commissioner Position No. 3 appears to remain open. In Fire District 5, Glen Nicholas III (Commissioner Position 3) and Chip Keen (Commissioner No. 2), Fire District 6, have entered the race.
For the Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation District, Susie Brandelius is seeking Commissioner Position No. 2, Don Grafstrom Position No. 1, and Tyler Maxfield is running for Position No. 4.
