Questioning late night noise

Dear Editor,

Dear Editor,

While I understand that the Forks Police Department can’t be everywhere at once, it’s discouraging to see how our local teenage drivers (and 20-something drivers with a teenage mentality) roar up and down main street, night after night after night, with what seems to be total impunity.

In addition, a number of them regularly park in the parking lot of the high school auto shop, where they make a ton of noise, often well past 10 p.m., in complete indifference to the guests who are trying to sleep at nearby motels. These kids recently were asked by an officer to relocate to the Thriftway parking lot, but some of them have returned to the auto-shop lot.

Do I expect young — and yes, mostly male — drivers to have the decency to show some consideration to tourists hoping to enjoy a quiet evening? No. Do I expect local law enforcement to exercise a tighter level of control over the excessive noise these kids produce, especially in the evening? Yes, and I hardly see that as an unreasonable thing to ask.

Any feedback from the FPD would be welcome.
