Getting a Kick Out of Soccer

By Lonnie Archibald

Well, it wasn’t exactly the Olympics, and no, NBC Sports didn’t show. Neither did the Associated Press photographers. Seems they were all away in some distant land known as Japan.

No, there were no gold, silver, or bronze medals handed out but there was much more you see. There were plenty of hugs, smiles, and laughter as some 96 youth ranging in ages from four to six took to the FHS practice field in front of friends and relatives to show their skills in soccer.

Oh, There were many kicks alright. Some landed on the ball, some came up with nothing but air and a few landed on shins.

There were Dragons, Pink Panthers

and Black Bears in the trees

There were Tigers, Royals and Bumble Bees.

There were Gators and Spiders too

who were there to scare the heck out of you.

These could be future Spartans and who knows maybe future Olympiads. We know not what the future will bring but for now, however, they are all GETTING A KICK OUT OF SOCCER.
