Don’t be a distracted driver!

Dear Editor,

Forks Young Life has partnered with State Farm & Washington Traffic Safety Coalition to help bring awareness of distracted driving. As a young driver in this town, I am very aware of the distracted driving problem in our community. The largest distraction is cellphones, which is extremely dangerous and it is only a matter of time before someone loses their life because of texting and driving.

We live in a small town where there is not much traffic and you don’t have to drive very far to get to where you’re going. If it only takes a maximum average of 10 minutes to get to your destination, WAIT! I encourage everyone to turn off your phone or put it in the trunk for just those few minutes so that it does not become a temptation to check while driving. Just doing this simple thing will decrease the likelihood of an accident and keep everyone on and around the road much safer!
