Thank You Forks!
Dear Editor,
To all the wonderful, generous people of Forks, thank you! Once again you supported Relay For Life and helped us raise over $25,000 for the American Cancer Society. Even though our numbers were few, we were Super Heroes in the fight for a cure.
Thanks to all the talented people who entertained us during Relay: Crescent Blue, Kaci Price and the Maybe Next Tuesday band. Thanks to Young Life for leading games, the Zumba instructors from Forks Athletic Club who led Zumba late at night, and Michelle Simpson who led yoga at daybreak. Forks is fortunate to have so many talented people who willingly share their gifts with us.
Thanks to Scott DePew and Ron Howell and their Olympic Correction Center crews for setting up and taking down all the tents, canopies, stage, etc; your help is invaluable. Many of us have spent close to 24 hours at the track, so your help with take down is truly appreciated.
Thanks to all the sensational sponsors listed on our shirt. These local businesses contribute yearly to support us financially and with donations and services. Thanks also to Home Slice Take N Bake for pizza for the OCC crew and a gift certificate, Str8 Jacket T’s for updating the highway banner, Sully’s for ice cream certificates, Forks Outfitters for donuts and cupcakes, Bob Stark for the stage and Plaza Jalisco for a gift certificate. A special thanks to the Forks Forum for its wonderful coverage.
Thanks to my dedicated committee who helped plan, coordinate and run our “Super Hero” Relay. Thanks to Anita Ferris, Sponsorship; Berlinda James, Survivors; Carin Hirsch, Luminaria; Randy Mesenbrink, Logistics; Tina Matchett, Entertainment; Juan Almazan, DJ; First Federal, Accounting and Registration; and to Hannah Halstrom, American Cancer Staff Partner. These people make everything run smoothly and contribute countless hours behind the scene.
Thanks to the team captains and teams for all their hard work and putting the FUN in fundraising: Diane Edwards and the Puddle Jumpers, Christina Soto and St. Anne’s Saints, Emma Noble and the Fire Ball Walkers, Jennifer Lane and Forks Outfitters, Vicky Goakey, Berlinda James and The Big Mouths, Sharon Millet and Prince of Peace, Jennifer Pelikan, Sue Keilman and Joan’s Team, Jolene Price and The Little Pigs and Nicole Rasmussen and Young Life.

A Response
to Stand Up Letter
Dear Editor,
If we castigate those who decline to perform nationalistic rituals, we are no longer able to carry the banner “Land of the Free.”
One of the basic tenants of freedom is the liberty to be different, even if you find it at odds with your own thinking.
Liberty also means freedom from despotic control; there are countries today which demand all citizens pay homage to the state, against their will, with consequences for non-compliance.
We are not one of those countries and we must not allow our ourselves to become one.
