The public can greet the Wall’s arrival at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, as it is escorted by veterans on motorcycles and classic cars from the American Legion Post downtown to the airport.
Special events during the visit include:
Opening Ceremony – 10 a.m., Thursday, September 11
Agent Orange Candlelight – 8 p.m., Friday, September 12
Closing Ceremony – 1:45 p.m., Sunday, September 14
The Wall That Heals is a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. At 375 feet long and 7.5 feet high, it bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. Visitors may make name rubbings and walk the chevron-shaped Wall, which is accompanied by a mobile Education Center.
Since 1996, the exhibit has visited hundreds of communities nationwide, offering veterans, families, and the public a chance to reflect and heal. The 2025 season includes 30 stops across the country.
The Port Townsend visit is hosted by the American Legion, VFW, and community partners, with support from the Port of Port Townsend, DAR, Elks, Rotary, and Kiwanis clubs. Volunteers are needed to serve as docents and welcome visitors. Sign up at https://tinyurl.com/the-Wall-Port-Townsend
