This week in 2000, the totem at the Triangle Lot had gotten a new coat of paint. Robbie Taylor, a carver from La Push had done the painting.The annual Fish and Brew had been held at the Huckleberry Lodge, with local brewer Gordon Gibbs, one of many brewers, supplying a selection of his craft beers (photos).
This week in 1975 a barn belonging to Lawrence Gaydeski burned along with 5,000 bales of hay and farming equipment. Forks, Beaver and DNR fire crews responded to the blaze. A Quileute language book was being dedicated, it had been written by Jay Powell with the blessing of the Tribal Council. The Big Log downtown was in bad shape and falling apart; a call went out to do something (photo). A picture of the Clallam Bay Bruins team appeared in a full page ad (photo).
In 1968 a photo of Farm Youth Exchange Student Satinder Kaur Cheema, of Uttar Pradas, India and Forks 5th graders, had appeared on the front page. She had received a small basket from Clifford Hudson Jr., after speaking to the class. The basket was made by Clifford’s grandmother Pansy Hudson (photo). In Homecoming happenings King Gary Gaydeski had crowned Queen JoAnn Blomgren (photo). In Service News, twenty-one-year-old Sam McElravy of Beaver was serving with the Army – 1st Special Forces in Vietnam (photo). In display ads the Hang Up Tavern was having a Grand Opening at their new location.
This week in 1953 the originator of the famous Ozette Cranberries had died. Isacc Tippicanoe Wessler had homesteaded in the Ozette area in 1902. After returning to Seattle for a few years he returned to the Ozette to live until his death. The Aircraft Warning System was being reactivated and observers were needed. Well drilling for the new town water system had hit 90 feet. Fred B. Rosmond had accepted his appointment to the Forks Town Council, replacing a member who had moved out of the area.
