This week twenty-five years ago the Upper Hoh Road had been closed because of a washout. After inspection one lane had been reopened for day-use only. An ONP spokesperson shared that they were researching a by-pass option, but first an environmental assessment was needed. Spartan volleyball members were celebrating being league champs! The Boot and Shoe and Lloyd George Jewelers were both celebrating twenty five years in business. There were many photos from the WOCA Haunted House (photos).
In 1975 the school board had made a new policy banning students smoking in off-campus classes such as the building and logging classes. The Spartan Jr. Varsity Cheerleaders were featured in a photo (photo). In Homecoming Week Awards ….The “Baby Day” winners were Tami Bagby and Alan Quigley. Jenean Boggs had been named Outstanding Brownie of the Month.
This week in 1968 it was reported that members of Mr. Bull’s sixth grade class had completed a replica of a Mexican village named San Toro (photo). About 100 kids had participated in the Forks Lions Halloween Costume Contest. Best group winners were Debi and Cliff Otos as Olympic Elk. Leslie Kennedy had received first in the the “Most Halloween” award dressed as a jack o’lantern. Drivers on main street were being asked to yield to pedestrians …signs had gone up.
In 1953 a well drilling company out of Tacoma was developing the new well for the towns’ water system. Three Seattle area elk hunters had drowned in swift water near the Huelsdonk Ranch on the Hoh River. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Archer had welcomed a son; Greg weighed 7 pound 6.5 ounces. The Eastmans and Wards of La Push had attened the UW vs Stanford football game in Seattle.
