After several days on the run, robbery suspect Frederick Crawford, 31, of Forks, was taken into custody Wednesday morning, Nov. 5, following a coordinated effort by multiple law enforcement agencies.
According to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a tip that Crawford had returned to a residence in the 200 block of Shuwah Road in Forks. Deputies Earls and Demorest, working alongside Forks Police and La Push Police officers, surrounded the home and called Crawford outside. He surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident.
Crawford is being transferred to the Clallam County Jail, where he faces charges of Robbery in the First Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Malicious Mischief in the Second Degree, and Aiming or Discharging a Firearm.
The arrest concludes a weeklong search that began after an incident on Oct. 30, when deputies were called to Lake Pleasant Community Park in Beaver. A 38-year-old Forks resident reported that a man, later identified as Crawford, had blocked him in with a silver Toyota 4-Runner, opened his car door, grabbed his .22 caliber rifle, and pointed it at him before smashing his driver’s side window with the weapon. The victim fled and called 911.
Deputies later determined that Crawford had prior felony convictions for Assault in the Third Degree (two counts) and Malicious Mischief in the Second Degree, prohibiting him from legally possessing firearms.
On Nov. 4, detectives with the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team (OPNET) received information that Crawford was staying at the Shuwah Road property. Using drone technology, detectives confirmed his presence. Because of his violent history and the likelihood he was armed, the Peninsula Crisis Response Team (PCRT) was deployed to assist with the arrest. Despite a thorough search that day, Crawford was not located.
Less than 24 hours later, deputies returned to the residence following a new tip and successfully took Crawford into custody.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office thanked the partnering agencies and the public for their assistance in safely resolving the case.
