April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)
Published 1:30 am Thursday, April 2, 2026
At Mariposa House, we’re focusing on prevention and outreach within our community and partnering agencies/programs. Sexual Assault Awareness Month is an important time to raise awareness about sexual violence, uplift survivors, and continue building a safe community. Throughout the month of April, we will be sharing information and interactive posts on our social media pages to help spark conversation and raise awareness in our community. We’re also promoting a couple of action days as easy, visible ways for the community to show support and get involved.
Take Action Against Sexual Harm
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness and stand in support of survivors of sexual harm and abuse.
Community members are invited to show their support by wearing teal on April 7. You can also help spread awareness by posting a selfie on social media using the hashtag #SAAM2026 and tagging Mariposa House so your message of support can be shared.
If you or someone you know needs help, confidential support is available 24/7 through the crisis line at 360-374-2273.
Denim Day Raises Awareness, Supports Survivors
Denim Day will be observed on April 29, 2026, as part of a global movement to stand with survivors of sexual violence and challenge harmful myths about consent.
The day began after a court ruling suggested that a survivor’s tight jeans implied consent—sparking international outrage and inspiring people to wear denim as a visible protest against victim-blaming. Today, Denim Day continues to raise awareness and promote the message that clothing never equals consent.
Community members are invited to take part by wearing denim and stopping by Forks Outfitters from 4 to 7 p.m. Attendees can learn about local support services, prevention education for youth, and connect with advocates. Raffle baskets will also be available, with proceeds supporting local advocacy services.
If you or someone you know needs support, confidential help is available 24/7 by calling 360-374-2273.
