The Forks Powerlifting Club continued its strong season with an impressive showing at the Axe House Open in Shelton this past Saturday, finishing third overall in the men’s division. The team competed against a deep field, with Yelm placing second and host Shelton taking first.
Forks athletes delivered several standout individual performances. Darinel Garcia Lopez and Samuel Lopez Rivera each claimed first place in their respective weight classes, leading the team’s effort. Additional place winners included:
Kolton Cornish – 4th place
Nery Jeronimo – 4th place
Kaden Ward – 5th place
Kingston Steffen – 6th place
Logan Ramsey – 6th place
On the women’s side, Brenna Riggin earned a solid 5th-place finish, continuing to contribute valuable points for the Spartans.
This marks the third competition of the season for Forks, and the team continues to show steady growth and development.
“I’m really proud of how this group continues to progress each time we compete,” said Coach Trevor Highfield. “They’re putting in the work, supporting each other, and representing our school the right way. We’re also incredibly thankful for the support from our community—it makes a huge difference for these athletes. We’re excited about the success of our new club and the opportunity it brings for continued growth in our numbers heading into next year.”
Looking ahead, the State Championship meet will take place on May 2 at Olympia High School. Official standings will be released later this week, and Forks is projected to have five athletes invited to compete at the state level. With momentum building, the Spartans are positioning themselves well for a strong finish to the season. The powerlifting season begins in January, and the Spartans are building momentum for an even stronger showing next year.
