Be responsible …leash your dog

Published 1:30 am Thursday, April 23, 2026

Dear Editor,

I walk my dog on a leash in and around the park and the school every day.

Yesterday, I had a pit bull run out at us. I scooped up my dog and in the process, hurt my back. It was scary! The owner was coming over at the time and I expressed my concern and frustration. Their dog would not come to them when called and that owner, in fact, had trouble getting his dog back to him and under his control. This kind of thing should never happen.

This has happened before at the park, at the school, on the streets, and at various places during our walk. This has also happened to my friends and their leashed dogs.

I am tired of the excuses. It is unsafe for everyone and their pets.

Please leash your dogs and have them tied, fenced and restrained while they are out. While you may feel that your dog is not a danger, it is unfair to others who have their pets on leashes and are trying to get some exercise. We do not know your pet nor do you know others’ pets that are out and about. Be responsible.
