Allen Charles Harner was born on June 13, 1953, in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He was adopted by Dorothy and Carroll Harner while they were stationed at the nearby US Army base. He spent his childhood in Japan, greater Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania, before moving to San Mateo, CA, where he graduated high school in 1971.

He received his Bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University and his Master’s in Education from Pacific Lutheran University before moving to Forks, WA, to begin teaching. He married his wife of forty-two years, Cathy, in 1984 and welcomed his daughter, Rachel, in 1994.

A devoted educator, Allen worked at Forks Elementary School for thirty years, serving as librarian and teaching both third and fifth grades. An avid reader and comic book collector, Allen was happiest meeting his favorite artists at comic book conventions or visiting Disneyland with his family.

Allen passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on April 23, 2026. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia Hillegass, and his brother Walter Kramer. He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Swayze) Harner, of Forks, WA, and his daughter, Rachel Harner, of Los Angeles, CA. A funeral Mass was held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church on May 16th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Olympic Library System at: www.nols.org/donate/.
