It was July 21 that I happened to notice youngsters ages 4-12 wearing brightly colored jerseys kicking the ball around the Forks High School practice fields. Five games taking place at one time was a sight to behold.
No! Fox Sports never showed, nor did World Cup teams such as Belgium, USA, or Spain. But then who needed them? These teams of local youth displayed some real talent.
I saw no yellow or red cards waved, nor were there any brawls. Fans never burnt autos on Spartan Avenue and no businesses were broken into. This was an evening of some of the finest sports entertainment seen anywhere.
Oh, I guess there were times players kicked the ball towards the wrong net. Some missed the ball completely while others occasionally made contact with the chins of the opposing team members, but overall there were a lot of balls kicked and several goals made by these young soccer stars who, along with fans, were definitely GETTING A KICK OUT OF SOCCER.
