The Forks Lions Club recently completed another successful year of annual firewood deliveries for OLYCAP, demonstrating the power of community collaboration in providing essential support to those in need.

On Saturday, Sept. 23, the Forks Lions Club, alongside numerous volunteers and local businesses, completed the delivery of 50 loads of firewood, totaling approximately 80 cords. This initiative is part of the OLYCAP energy assistance/firewood program, which aims to provide much-needed warmth and comfort to families during the colder months.

The Forks Lions Club extended heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to this year’s success. Lions Club members, generous guests, and dedicated individuals who make this endeavor possible year after year were acknowledged for their unwavering commitment.

Key contributors to the initiative included Lion Joe Soha, who organized the event, and local businesses such as Mora Heavy Equipment, Steve Zoffel, D.R. Services, Mark and Dave Soderlind, S.J. Rathjen, Drew Paul, Jerry’s Rentals, Bruch & Bruch [Fuzzy], and Moody, who provided essential trucks and equipment for the deliveries.

ICI (Industrial Constructors Inc.) played a crucial role by lending a front-end loader and Dave Wikstrom as the operator, ensuring the efficient handling of the firewood. Rayonier, a local company, was recognized for generously offering storage space for the wood at their Forks yard year after year.

A pivotal part of the success story is the dedicated efforts of the OCC officers who organize teams of incarcerated individuals throughout the year. These teams cut, split, and transport the firewood to Rayonier’s yard, where it is stored for distribution.

The Forks Lions Club emphasized that the continued support of non-Lion participants, as well as community engagement, has been instrumental in making this project a remarkable success.

For those interested in receiving firewood assistance next year, the Forks Lions Club advised contacting OLYCAP to inquire about the program’s requirements for getting added to the energy assistance/firewood program list.

Once again, the Forks Lions Club and its partners have demonstrated the spirit of unity and compassion, ensuring that no one in our community goes without warmth during the winter months.
