Carol Ann (Sutherland) Johansson, 67, of Sekiu, Washington lost her courageous battle with colon cancer on May 14, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Auburn, WA on August 30, 1957, to Harold and Mary (Quimby) Sutherland. Carol graduated from Enumclaw High School in 1975. On August 14, 1976, she married Carl Johansson and they enjoyed a lifetime of hiking, camping and fishing with their family. Carol also loved to read, bake, and tend to her garden. What she enjoyed most was spending time with her nine grandchildren and she had just welcomed two great-grandchildren.
Carol attended Green River Community College in Auburn, WA. After receiving her degree she went to work at Enumclaw Hospital for a short time before getting married and moving to Oak Harbor Naval Air Station. Her career in ophthalmology started in Anacortes, WA. She worked for nearly 45 years as a nurse and spent her last 15 years as a nurse at Sophie Trettevick Indian Health Center in Neah Bay, WA. This by far was her favorite nursing experience.
Carol is survived by her husband of 48 years, Carl Johansson, sister Jane (Dennis) Balsley, mother Mary, aunt Clara, daughter Erin (Steve) Kozaki, son Erik (Julie) Johansson. She is predeceased by her father Harold Sutherland, sister Cindy, aunt Darlene, uncle Floyed, and grandmother GGQ.
Thank you to all of those involved in her care at Allenmore Hospital, Olympic Medical Center and especially to everyone at Forks Community Hospital.
Carol was laid to rest at Tahoma National Cemetery.
