PORT ANGELES, WA. – Peninsula College’s Studium Generale lecture series returns this fall, offering a diverse lineup of thought-provoking presentations. Kicking off on Thursday, October 2, the series will feature renowned experts, community partners, and unique cultural celebrations throughout the quarter. All events begin at 12:35 p.m. in The Little Theater on the main campus of Peninsula College or via livestream on Zoom.
October 2: Welcome to nəxʷsƛ̕áy̕əm’ Territory
The traditional Welcome is a partnership among the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, and Peninsula College.
October 9: Explosive Welding
Alumnus Michael Drum will share elements of the fascinating work being done at High Energy Metals in Sequim, WA.
October 16: Preview of the 5th annual All-In Film Festival
Previewing the All-In Film Festival, a free, inclusive film event featuring movies by and about individuals with diverse abilities.
October 23: Creating Common Ground with Carmen Watson-Charles
In celebration of Resilience Month, Watson-Charles will share elements of her Klallam culture and history.
October 30: Olympic Cougar Project with Mark Elbroch, PhD
Join us in an exploration of research and data-driven insights which will hopefully ensure healthy integrated human-wildlife ecosystems for generations to come.
November 6: Artist Molly Troxler
Jamestown S’Klallam, Skokomish, and Squaxin Island artist Molly Troxler will share her inspirations, artistic style, and connections to family. Troxler’s work is showcased in ʔaʔk̓ʷustəƞáwt̓xʷ House of Learning, PC Longhouse during fall quarter.
**November 12: My Heart is Good
Join us for special Wednesday edition of Studium Generale held in ʔaʔk̓ʷustəƞáwt̓xʷ House of Learning, PC Longhouse. My Heart is Good is an oral history of treaty rights told by Port Gamble S’Klallam elder and former tribal chair Ron Charles, with context and background by anthropologist Josh Wisniewski.
November 13: Honoring Veterans
Join us for a roundtable discussion with Peninsula College faculty, staff, and administrators on their experiences in the military.
November 20: Native Plants of the Peninsula with Alice Derry
Poet Alice Derry will discuss the native plants of the Olympic Peninsula and how her creative partnership with Fred Sharpe has inspired the fusion between art and science through essays, drawings, and shared inspirations.
December 4: What We Have Learned this Quarter
