This week in 2001, the search for the new QVSD superintendent continued. More meetings were being organized about the potential closing of the Coast Guard station at La Push. The top four Girl Scout cookie sellers were featured in a photo …together they sold 5,535 boxes of cookies (photo). The House of Representatives had approved the transfer of the 23.5 acres of Coast Guard property at Slip Point to the county.

In 1976, a photo from the Forks Invitational Basketball tournament was on the front page (photo) … featuring Dan Yurisich, Mike Price, and Gary Vitcovich. Eighty-seven-year-old Forks resident Murry D. Macauley had received a birthday card from President Ford (photo). A semi-load of shakes had tipped over seven miles north of Forks. Almost everyone in town had their name on a full-page ad supporting the upcoming school levy. Peninsula Telephone had installed its 5,000th phone. Sixth-grade girls had presented Cinderella. Moody’s Nursery was expanding with a new building.

This week in 1969, Henry Halverson and Kaye Kelso had a car accident on Bogachiel Way. KOMO news and State Representatives had visited the Quillayute Airport to consider it as an emergency airfield. The Shorline Resort in La Push was getting a $100,000 upgrade. A photo taken by Lonnie Archibald of Wilson’s swinging bridge had appeared in the paper (photo). Junior bowlers had taken honors at a state tournament (photo).

In 1954, it was reported that the bids were in for the new Forks fire truck. They ranged from $15,000 to $23,000. Eighty Poplar trees had been planted in Mansfield Addition.

In 1940, it was reported that faller John Harlin, age 57, was killed in a logging accident at Sekiu when a log above him rolled.
