This week in 2001 it was Kid’s Fishing Day and White Canes weekend time. The Pay and Save Coffee Shop was under the new management of Lori and Renee. Hours would remain the same 4:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. Forks 4th and 5th graders held a Science Fair. Rainfest photos appeared in the paper Anita Wheeler had demonstrated basket-making at the Forks Library (photo). Marni Whitehead was on the Dean’s List at SPU. Fred Shaw was turning 80. Wayne Daman had pitched a shutout against Elma.
Fifty year ago this week vandals had hit the Forks schools draining buses of gas and smashing windows. Broken beer bottles in Tillicum Park were an item of discussion at city council. Local 9-1-1 dispatcher costs were also discussed. West End Motors was Business of the Week and Art Jr. and Art Sr. (Anderson) were featured in a photo (photo).
This week in 1969, Hoh resident John Fletcher was featured with a giant cottonwood tree. It measured 22 ft 7.5 inches around (photo). In city council news, garbage was topic of discussion as well as the annexation of Mansfield Addition. The Pioneer Club had met and discussed old houses in Forks.
This week in 1954 an artist’s concept drawing of the proposed Congregational Church appeared on the front page. Mary Klepps had married John W. Johnson at the Community Hall in Beaver. It was reported that home milk deliveries by the Forks Branch of the Angeles Co-operative Creamery would no longer happen on Sundays. In ads …Pay and Save Foods had ground beef … 3 pounds for a $1.
This week in 1940, a Clallam County Commissioner was found guilty on three counts …misappropriation of funds and two counts of forgery. A local man had spent the night in jail for using bad language in the presence of some ladies. He then broke up the furniture in the Forks jail and was soon on his way to the Clallam County Jail.
This week in 1939 the Beaver PTA was putting on a play at the Olympic Theater.
